Westminster Gymnasium (1933)

Westminster College's gymnasium was built in 1933, with funds having been raised by students and some materials salvaged from the former men's dormitory, Moody Hall, that had been deconstructed. Before its construction, students made use of the unfinished fourth floor over the auditorium in Texas Hall, an outdoor practice court, and the Mexia public school gymnasium.

Construction of the new gym was completed by January 1934 when the Westminster Wildcats began practicing in the building. The Waco newspaper reported that "It is felt that the construction of the new gymnasium is one of the most important programs completed by the college in recent years." The 1939-40 student catalog described the building as "a fine large gymnasium, in which the institution not only holds basketball games but other indoor activities of the school, such as: volleyball, tennis, boxing, and community nights."
The large, frame building retains its original wood floor and basketball backboards. The building has never been air conditioned, but at one time it featured an exhaust fan in the east gable, and louvered openings on the south facade to allow air to circulate.
